The Historical Commission met via free-conference call at 5:00 pm on Monday, June 1, 2020 Commission Members present on call– Ann Gallo, Nini Gilder, Alice Hale, Catherine Mardula, Carol Hardy-Fanta, Peter Charpentier, Sarah Hudson.

  1. Motion to open meeting by Alice
  2. February minutes were read and approved by Nini and seconded by Sarah.
  3. Finance update: Peter reported that as of today the HC has $1017.90 in our Historical Commission town account. Molly has received the application for the Historical Commission funds for FY 2021 of $1500, to be presented at the next town meeting. Discussion ensured on how to spend the remaining FY2020 funds.
  4. Ann gave an update on the oral history transcription project that is underway. She has finished digitizing over 60 cassette tapes. In addition, the recorded interviews from “Women of Tyringham” will be added to this collection. That will be over 90 interviews. The next step in this process is to find funding for the transcription of these recordings. Ann was able to secure a $2,000 match grant from the Housatonic Heritage Oral History Center at Berkshire Community College, leaving $2,000 to be raised to receive those funds. Ann requested and received from The Hop Brook Community Club a pledge of $1,000. She is asking the Historical Commission to earmark the balance of their FY 2020 funds of $1017.90 for this project. Nini made a motion to earmark $1017.90 for the oral history project and have these funds and all donations for this project go into a town “gift” account. Sarah seconded. Catherine spoke about library grants in the fall that might be relevant to help fund this project as well. These grants will be explored in the fall.
  5. Sarah will reach out to Brody Hale regarding the status of the schoolhouse.
  6. Nini reported the National Registry application is still in process.
  7. Nini reported the library plaque has been installed
  8. Ann moved to adjourn. Nini seconded. The meeting ended at 5:32.

Respectfully submitted,

Ann Gallo
