Qualifications

Knowledge of domestic and wild animals, their diseases and their habitat

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Insuring that all animals in the town are free from diseases
  • Housed in proper facilities
  • Maintained with adequate food and water
  • Have all required State Health and immunizations
  • Responsible for quarantining all animals that may have been exposed to rabies:

Dog and cat bites to humans
Domestic animals in contact with unknown animals which may be rabid
Quarantining animals for periods of ten days to a year depending on circumstances

  • Animal Inspector must fill out a "Barn Book" yearly, listing all animals with in the town, owners , location, conditions etc. This book is sent to the Division of Animal Health in Boston
  • Animal Inspector works in conjunction with Animal Control Officer on domestic and wildlife issues such as rabies, bird flu, and all other diseass effecting animals coming into contact with humans
